  • This photo was taken from Union Point, which is the final stop on Four Mile Trail before Glacier Point, which offers arguably the best view in Yosemite. Unfortunately, the path to Glacier Point closes during the winter to (as the sign puts it) “extreme danger.”<br />

  • This is a telephoto shot of the Firefall at Horsetail Falls in Yosemite National Park taken in February 2013. For about 8 days each February, Horsetail Falls in Yosemite National Park looks like it's on fire at the end of the sunset.
  • This shot was taken from a popular location in Yosemite National Park called "Tunnel View," and was actually taken well before sunrise. Star trails and a sunrise aren't things that normally go together. If the sun is rising, you have too much light in the sky for star trails. However, if you keep your shutter open for over 5 minutes (339 seconds to be exact) at just the right time starting just before the dawn sky starts to appear, you can capture both in a single frame.

  • This is a photo of the Firefall at Horsetail Falls in Yosemite National Park taken in February 2013. In late February, Horsetail Falls in Yosemite National Park looks like it's on fire at the end of the sunset. <br />

This occurs due to the angle of the sunset, and would actually occur in October, too, but there's only water in this fall due to snow melt-off, and no snow is melting in October. There actually wasn't much water in it in February 2013, either, but there's just enough to make the effect work.
